Psychology of learning

Motivation · learning dispositions · self-regulation

Understand the learner behind the performance.

Look beyond effort alone

When students disengage, avoid challenge or struggle to sustain effort, the reasons are often complex. Understanding their beliefs, motivation and experiences helps us design a more useful response.

What I can help your school do

Explore motivation, self-efficacy, perfectionism and self-regulation; develop learning dispositions through classroom practice; and connect knowledge of adolescent development with the way we teach and respond to students.

Make the ideas practical

We can examine the opportunities students have to take intellectual risks, seek help, respond to feedback and reflect on progress. These dispositions become part of the learning design and the conversations around it.

How we might work together

Professional learning for staff, workshops for students, conversations with parents, or a sequence of work that connects these groups around shared learning priorities.
