How I work

The subject matters. So does the way we work together.

I work alongside leaders and educators to understand the context, make sense of the evidence and put useful ideas into practice. The starting point is a conversation about what you want to achieve and what is happening now.

Listen and understand

We begin with your learners, your people and your priorities. We consider what has already been tried, what is working and where the difficulties remain.

Agree on a meaningful focus

Together, we identify a manageable priority and the evidence that will help us judge progress. The work needs to fit your context and the capacity of the people who will carry it forward.

Design and work alongside your teams

I connect research and experience with practical planning, learning design and implementation. Teachers and leaders have opportunities to apply ideas, examine examples and refine their own work.

Review and refine

We return to evidence of learning and implementation. This may include student work, assessment results, observation and the perspectives of staff and students. What we learn shapes the next adjustment.

Build capability over time

The intention is to strengthen the knowledge, confidence and judgement within your school. The length and form of the partnership depend on the work you need to do.

Ways to work together

Bespoke workshops and keynotes · teaching-writing workshops · collaborative planning · curriculum and assessment reviews · individual executive coaching · leadership development · student and parent sessions · ongoing school partnerships.

Work with me face to face, online or through a combination of both. Self-paced courses provide another way for teachers and leaders to learn in their own time. Get in touch to discuss current courses and the format that suits your needs.

Student and parent sessions

Alongside professional learning for teachers and leaders, I work directly with students and parents. Sessions connect research with practical ideas and are tailored to the age of the learners and the priorities of your school.

For students

Workshops help students understand themselves as learners. Topics include motivation, confidence, self-regulation, responding to feedback, intellectual risk-taking and managing perfectionism. Sessions can also address the experiences of high potential and gifted learners, including the gap between potential and achievement.

For parents

Sessions explore adolescent development and ways to support learning, motivation and wellbeing at home. They can focus on understanding high potential and gifted learners, responding to perfectionism and supporting young people as they become more independent.
